The Story Behind ScanPhishing

The idea for ScanPhishing was born out of the increasing number of phishing-related incidents reported in the news. These attacks not only deceive individual users but often lead to much larger consequences within organizations — exposing sensitive data, compromising systems, and causing significant financial loss.

In 2024 alone, phishing attacks were responsible for an estimated $1.2 billion in losses globally. Major brands, banks, and even government institutions have been impersonated in well-crafted scams. One of the most common patterns is simple but effective: a user receives an email or message with a link to a fake website that looks nearly identical to the real one. Once credentials are entered, attackers gain access and escalate from there.

Phishing comes in many forms:

  • Email phishing — fake messages that appear to be from trusted sources
  • Smishing — phishing via SMS or messaging apps
  • Spear phishing — highly targeted attacks aimed at specific individuals
  • Cloned websites — fake login pages designed to steal your data

As cybersecurity professionals and concerned users, we asked:
Why isn’t there an easier way to quickly check if a URL is suspicious or dangerous?

That’s when ScanPhishing was created — a simple and free tool where anyone can paste a URL and get an instant analysis using real-time threat intelligence. No login, no technical knowledge required.

Our goal is to make the internet a little safer, one URL at a time.
